Best Boys Soccer Season in Recent Memory Comes to an End

Portland Boys Varsity Soccer's season came to a close yesterday as they were defeated by Grand Rapids West Catholic in the District Semi Finals.  The Raiders played a well fought close game only losing 3-4.  The boys were able to get off to a quick start in the first half by scoring two quick goals in the opening ten minutes.  West Catholic responded quickly and  the score went back and forth in a very intense offensively played game.  The half ended with a score of 3-4.  Neither team would score in the second half as both teams battled to put more goals in the net.  Goals were scored by Johann Boettger (2) and Florian Klindt.

The Boys soccer program finished with a 17-3 record and will be recorded as the most successful season in the programs history, beating the previous record for wins that was set in 2004 (15-4-1).  They finished 2nd in the league this year and for the third consecutive year advanced past the first round of district play.  In addition to the wins they also set the programs record for most goals in a single season by scoring a total of 82 goals (previous record was 57 set in 2003).

Tate Dziewiatkowski and Florian Klindt both broke the previous record for goals in a single season.  Florian scored 27 goals this year and Tate currently holds the programs record with an impressive 32 goals on the season.

What's most impressive is how well these young men represented their school and their program.  Their determination on the field and the hard work they put in this year is more than extraordinary.
